GENDER AT AFRICA FOOD SYSTEMS FORUM 2025
The Africa Food Systems Forum Partners Group, in partnership with the Government of Senegal, will host the Africa Food Systems’ Annual Summit in Dakar from September 1st to September 5th, 2025, under the theme “Africa’s Youth: Leading Collaboration, Innovation, and Implementation of Agri-food Systems Transformation”. The CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion (GENDER Accelerator) is organizing a number of sessions at the forum.
Young people actively play critical roles in agricultural systems. They are also vital to the future of these food systems as the continually drive innovation and sustainability.
Despite their crucial role, a growing challenge exists: the agricultural workforce is aging as young people pursue opportunities outside of traditional farming. This demographic shift threatens the long-term viability of our food systems and global food security.
Feeding future generations will depend on a vibrant food system that requires engaging today’s youth.
In line with Africa Food Systems Forum theme focused on youth, CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion (GENDER Accelerator) acknowledges the importance of investing in and enhancing the potential of youth as a vital aspect of its agricultural research for development (AR4D) initiatives. In the new CGIAR portfolio GENDER Accelerator is leading research and innovation on youth in food, land and water systems.
