A brief description of modern aims and targets for fisheries management that have been used recently is given. This covers MSY, Fmax, Fmsy,F0.1, spawning stock maintenance, buffer stock maintenance, status quo F, Fmed, Flow, Fhigh, and constant escapement. A selection of examples from managed fisheries is given
