Abstract

Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheShahpurasub-watershedasrecordedfromtheIrakallgadaStationdatabyKSNDMC. 68%,15%and17%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesareinappropriateandneededtobealtered. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis16mmforanaverageannualrainfallof706mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(184mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis231(=184+31+16) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis546mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas682mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby451mm,i.e.(682-231).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis75%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinShahpuraSub-watershedasperLRIdataare299(283-Borewells,16-Openwells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationHireshindhogi.Deepestlevelwasfoundin2009year
