Abstract
Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheGinigerasub-watershedasrecordedfromtheKoppalstationdatabyKSNDMC. 65%,20%and15%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandSummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceissustainable.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesareappropriateandneednotbealtered. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis58mmforanaverageannualrainfallof596mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(173mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis262(=173+31+58) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis517mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas646mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby384mm,i.e.(646-262).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis74%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisaslightlylessopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinGinigeraSub-watershedasperLRIdataare204(Borewells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationHireshindhogi.Deepestlevelswerefoundin2009
