THE FERTILIZER USE EFFICIENCY AND YIELD OF WHEAT INFLUENCED BY SUPPLEMENTAL IRRIGATION FROM RUNOFF HARVESTED WATER IN DONOR CATCHMENT

Abstract

IN DEHRADUN, CONDITIONS , ABOUT 20% RAIN WATER GOES AS RUNOFF WHICH APPEARS TO HAVE GREAT POTENTIAL IN INCREASING AND ESTABLISHING CROP YIELD UNDER RAINFED CONDITIONS. TO EVALUATE THE BENEFICIAL EFFECT OF SUPPLEMENTAL IRRIGATION FROM RUNOFF HARVESTED WATER IN DONOR CATCHMENT , AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED FOR 4 YEARS ( 1975- 76 AND 1978-79). ONE IRRIGATION OF 50 mm APPLIED AS PRESOWING IRRIGATION OR AT CRI STAGE INCREASED THE YIELD OF WHEAT BY 88 AND 82% RESPECTIVELY OVER DRY CONTROL. TWO IRRIGATIONS OF 50 mm EACH APPLIED AS PRESOWING AND AT CRI STAGE INCREASED YIELD BY 129% ( 4188 kg/ha) OVER DRY CONTROL ( 1831 kg/ha) . THE USE OF RUNOFF HARVESTED WATER ALSO INCREASED THE WATER USE AND FERTILIZER USE EFFICIENCY MANIFOLD
