The CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion Accelerator is co-organizing a regional workshop 'Co-creating a Gender and Social Inclusion Learning Agenda for Food, Land and Water Systems in MENA' from 19-20 November 2025 in Cairo, Egypt.

Advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in MENA’s Food, Land, and Water Systems

The MENA region is grappling with interconnected crises—from water scarcity and climate pressures to conflict—that disproportionately impact women, exacerbating deep-seated gender and social inequalities. Despite women’s vital role in agriculture, fragmented evidence and institutional barriers continue to hinder their access to resources, technology, and decision-making power. Closing the gender gap in the region is currently estimated to take over 140 years.

The CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion Accelerator is bringing together stakeholders in Cairo for a critical regional workshop to discuss solutions.

The workshop "Co-creating a Gender and Social Inclusion Learning Agenda for Food, Land and Water Systems in MENA" will take place from 19-20 November 2025 in Cairo, Egypt.

The primary objective is to co-design a unified  Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Research for development Learning Agenda for the MENA region. This Agenda will serve as a definitive roadmap for prioritizing investments, accelerating evidence generation, and translating research into impactful policy and development practice over the short to medium term.

This workshop aims to bring together people and organisations who have been working in this region, to contribute their expertise and learnings to identify research, development and policy priorities for the region. Furthermore, participants will identify strategic evidence gaps, priority learning questions for practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and donors.
