CGIAR Gender Agenda Setting Briefs

These briefs produced jointly by the CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion Accelerator and the CGIAR Science Programs form a series of agenda-setting briefs that aim to further develop an agenda for strategic areas of gender and social inclusion research within the new portfolio of CGIAR Science Programs and Accelerators, and inform the development of gender and inclusion strategies for these moving forward. The briefs are the culmination of a collaborative work that started during the CGIAR GENDER Science Exchange 2024 that convened 72 gender researchers from across the CGIAR to bring together experiences, ideas and insights from across centres, that can help in developing a gender strategy for the Science Programs in the future.

This series of agenda-setting briefs reviews recent and current research on key gender and inclusion themes related to food, land, and water systems, and sharpens the focus and direction of future gender research across the One CGIAR portfolio. Each of the eight briefs is thematically aligned with one of the 2025–2030 CGIAR Science Programs and Accelerators, namely: 1) Better diets and nutrition, 2) Breeding for tomorrow, 3) Digital transformation, 4) Multifunctional landscapes, 5) Policy innovations, 6) Scaling for impact, 7) Sustainable animal and aquatic foods, and 8) Sustainable farming. The briefs highlight CGIAR’s areas of expertise as well as important areas of research that should be developed as collaborative areas of work in the new portfolio.

Each brief: a) exposes the state of knowledge on its theme and notes key challenges, b) identifies established and new research methodologies that help advance knowledge on the theme, c) presents or proposes frontier research on gender in relation to the theme, including priority research questions.
