He also co-leads Work Package 3 of the CGIAR initiative on National Policies and Strategies (NPS) and contributes to the CGIAR initiative on Agroecology (AE-I) in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In current projects in countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, Vietnam, Ghana, India, Colombia and Peru, Jonathan is examining the role of private and public sector incentives and business models for (1) scaling adoption of agroecology practices and related innovations, (2) identifying the related political economy drivers which enable the policy and business environment that is critical for success of food system transition pathways, and (3) co-developing digital traceability tools for building resilient food systems. Prior to joining CIAT (now Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT), he was a researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and the University of Hohenheim. Jonathan earned his PhD and MSc in Agricultural Economics at the University Hohenheim, Germany and BSc in the same field at the University of Ghana.
