Bio

Christiane Monsieur leads the work on “Community engagement for empowerment and gender equality” within the Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). Over the past decade, she has spearheaded the FAO flagship Dimitra Clubs Initiative, championing a community-driven and gender-transformative model to empower rural smallholder farmers, with a specific emphasis on fostering women's leadership and engaging youth. With more than 25 years of experience in gender and rural development, she specializes in socio-economic and gender analysis, participatory methodologies, communication, and capacity development. She has offered support and guidance to numerous gender-focused development projects across Western and Central Africa. Prior to joining her current organization, she accrued experience in journalism and participatory training.
